Project Officer – Health Research

This is an ideal role for a Phd or Masters qualified candidate to be involved in a national Health Research organisation with great working conditions. The technical service required involves the search for international scientific experts to review scientific proposals, some of the tasks are detailed below:

  • For each application received, our client aims to receive written feedback from a minimum of three international peer reviewers. Peer reviewers must be selected based on the applications specialist area and the expertise needed to review. Possible peer reviewers are identified following a detailed analysis of the proposed keywords, project abstract and project summary details and using online databases such as Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Science Direct or Biomed Experts.
  • Once sourced, potential reviewers must be checked for conflicts of interest prior to contacting them.
  • Contact details of peer reviewers are then entered into a database, assigned to a particular grant application and contacted using the email function of the database. Peer reviewers are provided with details of the funding scheme, the title of the project, the name of the applicant, conflict of interest rules, guidance on the peer review process and the deadlines for receipt of completed feedback reports.
  • Emails are tracked and monitored, queries addressed and reminders sent regularly to non-responders.
  • Invited Peer Reviewers who agree to review an application must be provided with access to the database
  • Additional tasks will also involve sending reminders to peer-reviewers and examining peer review reports before publishing to online for applicants.

Required qualifications/expertise:

Technical experts with a primary and post-graduate degree (MSc at a minimum) in a health-related discipline, preferably with a PhD

in either

  • Patient-oriented,
  • Health services or
  • Population health research

The technical experts should complement each other regarding areas of research expertise and methodological paradigms.
