An opportunity has arisen for a full time, permanent Compliance Officer to join the Risk and Compliance team.  Our client is a well established organisation with almost 50 years in operation.  Over the past 5 years it has grown through a mix of strong demand and strategic transfer of engagements.   They are now providing financial services to in excess of 38,000 members.  This role was previously held as dual mandate, with supporting staff, it is now appropriate to separate out this role on a full time basis and would afford the successful applicant an exciting opportunity.

The role

The Compliance Officer will provide assurance to the board of directors, CEO, Senior Management Team and also the Central Bank.  They will ensure that the operation is operating within the legal and regulatory framework laid down within State, (and EU) law, and in particular the regulatory and supervisory framework required by the regulators and other statutory and professional bodies. 

Responsibilities

  • Devise and implement a compliance programme to ensure that all elements of all relevant products and services offered to members by the organisation are being carried out in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, policies and procedures, rules and Codes of Practice, and in line with industry best practice
  • Develop and update the compliance policy where appropriate
  • Identifying all statutory and regulatory obligations applicable to the organisation
  • Ensure the requirements of the compliance programme are implemented and adhered to on an on-going basis, and to ensure relevant issues are effectively reported
  • Advising the organisation – management and staff on compliance laws, rules and standards and provide appropriate management information on a regular basis or as required
  • Ensure appropriate compliance training programmes are delivered for all the organisation’s staff
  • Monitor changes to legal, regulatory and industry environments on an on-going basis and assess impact on the business, and provide advice and appropriate documentation for the organisation to ensure compliance
  • Devise internal compliance audit procedures and ensure their implementation
  • Investigate cases of non-compliance within the organisation
  • Ensure audit and regulatory recommendations are implemented within the stated deadlines
  • Ensure adequate records are kept and maintained around compliance
  • Provide management reports on regular basis (Produce and present regulatory reports as required)
  • Report to and work with the Audit & Compliance Committee on compliance matters
  • Liaise with all member groups and the Central Bank and other regulators as necessary and foster and build good relations

 Qualifications & Relevant Experience

  • A relevant 3rd level qualification
  • Membership of the ACOI or equivalent
  • 5 years experience in similar role preferably in a financial services environment
  • A good working knowledge of computers, ability to learn systems quickly
