Getting the most out of your Recruitment Consultant
It’s a completely free service for candidates to use and when used properly can be an invaluable ally in securing the most important revenue stream in your life… and Yet Recruitment Agents are often one of the most complained about species on the planet.
Part of the reason is our role in helping in your career development is often not understood properly and this is something we as an Industry have to address.
Getting the most out of your Recruitment Consultant
One of the biggest frustrations is that Recruitment Agents don’t get back to every single applicant. We do try and to respond to as many candidates as possible but with the downturn in the economy from late 2008 the number of candidates has increased dramatically while the number of jobs has decreased just as dramatically.
Secondly for the vast majority of roles we require people with at least 2 years experience relevant to the role they are applying for. It is important to remember that Recruitment Agencies can be of huge assistance in helping you progress in your career.
However while all of our consultants are trained to the highest standards we will rarely be able to help you set out on your career or to help with a career change.
The service is free to Candidates but there is a fee for potential companies. Thus companies will only pay a fee for a candidate who has relevant experience for the role they are recruiting for.
Tips for getting the most out of Recruitment Agencies:
• Don’t rely on one Recruitment Consultant but on the other hand don’t register with too many. (3 to 4 is recommended.)
• In deciding, research the Agencies and/or consultants you are going to register with and only deal with NRF members (you wouldn’t buy a car off someone who wasn’t SIMI certified)
• Ensure that the Consultant always gets your permission before sending your details
• Always keep a record of where your CV has gone and for what position and ensure you always retain control
